1. a se afunda, a se scufunda, a se arunca (cu capul înainte); a se scufunda (în meditaţie); a se afunda, a se înfunda, a se adânci (într-o pădure etc.); a se pierde (în mulţime); a se arunca, a se lansa, a se hazarda nebuneşte (într-o afacere, în petreceri etc.); (geol.) a se afunda, a se coborî;

to plunge forward a se arunca înainte;

to plunge into the room a năvăli în cameră; a intra ca vântul / ca o vijelie în cameră.

2. (despre cal) a se ridica în două picioare şi a zvârli din picioare.

3. (despre vapor) a se legăna (dinainte înapoi);

(mar.) to plunge to windward a pluti în zigzag, a merge ca vântul pe delături.

4. (jocuri) a juca sau a paria fără socoteală; (bursă) a risca sume enorme.
